Custom Land & Safari
Camps and guides worth knowing by name.
By Laura Korty, private luxury travel advisor and river & expedition cruise specialist
Africa, Iceland, Japan, Patagonia, the Alps. Custom-built land journeys with private guides, camps and lodges chosen for a reason, and transfers that actually connect. Nothing generic, nothing off a shelf.
Straight answers, before you ask.
How far ahead should a safari be planned?
Twelve to eighteen months ahead for peak season, July through October in East Africa, because the finest camps are small and hold few rooms. Southern Africa and shoulder seasons allow a little more flexibility. Camp availability, not flights, almost always decides your dates.
What makes a private guide worth it?
A private guide sets the day around you rather than a group schedule. You stay longer at a sighting, adjust for photography or children, and benefit from deep tracking knowledge. On safari, the guide is the single biggest influence on what you remember.
Can you combine a safari with a beach stay?
Absolutely, and it is one of the best ways to end a safari. Pairing the bush with Zanzibar, the Seychelles, Mauritius, or the Cape coast gives you rest after early mornings. I design the transitions so flights and transfers feel seamless instead of rushed.
